How to Ride
Start to think about boarding Silver Line at stations rather than stops. This is more than just a vocabulary change. Stations are outfitted with real-time status information and fare vending machines. The real-time status will keep you informed of when the next vehicle is coming. The fare process will improve and expedite the process for you and the rest of the drivers towards boarding and moving on to your destination.
How to ride
- Pay the fare before you get on board at the station before the vehicle arrives at the fare vending machine. You can purchase single trips, day passes, and other formats.
- Be sure to hold on to your fare receipt as proof of purchase. There will be random checks onboard to assure payment.
- If you already have a fare card, you will validate at the fare vending machine
- When the vehicle arrives, board at either door (since you’ve pre-paid, there’s no need to pay the driver.) You will have the benefit of level boarding at each station.
- The vehicle will stop at every station on the line. There’s no need to notify the driver.
- When exiting or boarding, be sure to use crosswalks.
Transfers/connections
You will be able to transfer from Silver Line to intersecting fixed routes.
Fares
Fares for Silver Line will be the same as fixed route rates—all passes will work interchangeably.
Parking
The construction of parking lots is not included in the initial project costs; however parking will be available. Existing or under-utilized lots will be identified near stations. Long-term, parking lots will be a part of the development planning process – allowing for commuter parking during the day and restaurant/retail/entertainment parking in the evenings. Comparable to other systems, parking will be more available the further from downtown Grand Rapid.
